My texture layer photography is done using multiple images with textural elements. I do not use filters. The images I use as textures are anything from a portion of a painting on canvas to the lichen on a stucco wall. Each layer acts like a tube of paint.

I’m an artist/photographer who loves capturing the beauty of nature and finding zen in the chaos. I use photography to tell stories and capture moments that can never be repeated. My texture layering technique is unique. I fall outside the normal parameters of either medium of painting or photography. It is not a matter of clicking on a button to reach the result of my pieces.

Amy Baxter
Anouk Jonker

Anouk currently resides on Vancouver Island, where she continues a studio practice and pursues a Ph.D. in art history from Queen’s University. Her academic interests include the history of art collecting and art connoisseurship, as well as painters in the Low Countries between the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries. Her studies into the history of painting deeply influence her studio practice through her choice of subject matter and narratives.

I take inspiration and creative ideas from many sources in various mediums. I love nature and the fantasy world where I create my own environments based on real places or things.

I am constantly experimenting with different techniques and materials. I create art.

The Golden Glow of the Sun
Brittany Rhodes

Large scale works in both acrylic and multimedia. My acrylic works are mainly wildlife portraits, while my multimedia pieces are mainly alcohol ink and resin mounted on metal. Through my art, I hope to inspire a deep reverence for the Earth and all its inhabitants, fostering a sense of wonder and respect for the natural world that transcends borders and cultures. May my work serve as a testament to the enduring power and resilience of nature, reminding us of our inherent connection to the web of life that sustains us, and motivating.

Cara Leanne creates bright and cheerful paintings. If you look closely, you’ll see hand-painted paper collage featured prominently in much of her art, adding unique elements of texture, detail and bits of printed text and musical notes. Collage papers for each work are chosen carefully, then individually torn and added to the painted canvas. A mixed media artist from the Comox Valley, Cara is inspired by gorgeous flowers, serene seascapes––even quirky chickens!

Cara Weisner
Cindy Mawle

As a Vancouver Island artist who works out of her home studio, Cindy is surrounded by forest on the central island. Her acrylic paintings on canvas mostly depict her surrounding areas on the Canadian west coast. Her main objective in these collections of work is to express the calm and joy she experiences in each location. “I want my work to present itself as a touchstone to our natural world. I believe the more we connect to nature, whether in real-time or through art, the better off we are as human beings.”

Vancouver Island metal worker describing his pieces as ‘Artistic Blacksmithing’.  David draws inspiration from his life on the West Coast “I am forever drawn to the BC Coast; it is very raw and rugged, just like the medium I have chosen for my art.

HelenUtsal

Helen Utsal is an award winning contemporary landscape painter living and working on Vancouver Island.

Spending time in Nature is a critical aspect of her inspiration and practice; a space for meditation, creation and renewal.

“I am entranced by the light in the forest and the diversity of moods and personalities of trees. I don’t seek to reproduce reality, but rather capture my impressions of colour, energy and light. Nature is a place of wonder and possibilities.”

Specializing in landscape and West Coast subjects in a realistic style, his objective is to provide people with an opportunity to view the world around them by creating works that can stir the emotions. His work can be found in private and corporate collections around the world.

Joe Smith
Kelly Corbett

As a realist painter, my motivation is to share my visual experiences. To create paintings that speak both to me and to others about the beauty that exists in British Columbia. My style invites the viewer to recall their own past adventures and relive the sights and scents of BC’s natural environment. Through my artwork I try to bring the outside in, to pay tribute the natural world and remind us how rewarding it can be to take the time to reconnect with nature.

Combining texture, shape, repetitive pattern and layering, my work relies on inspiration and colours from the natural world and an intuition and connection with the painting I'm working on. Movement and depth are fundamental to my process and I use large gestural marks to develop structure followed by more detailed layering work. I most often work with acrylic paint on wood panel that I've textured, marked and scraped ahead of time but more recently have started to experiment with monoprints. I forage leaves and grasses from my garden and the forest and use them to create layered images on paper.

Kira Neumann
Lori Schiersmann

In the Mid 1990’s Lori began decorative painting in acrylics. Over the years she has dabbled in acrylics and watercolour painting but her favorite medium will always be ceramic paste painted on glass or porcelain.

“Colour is what it’s all about in my choice of medium..and functionality of the glassware for everyday use”.

I use a variety of different mediums; acrylics, oil, chalk, charcoal, conte, pencil, ink and/or water colour. By throwing paint, writing, wiping, and scraping, I get playful with texture and colour, always finding the fun in painting!

Originating from Sweden, Marianne Enhörning is a West Coast Canadian artist, creating from her studio in Comox, BC. Her work is deeply influenced by her family heritage and the natural world that is so prevalent in her daily life. Marianne draws great inspiration from the tremendous beauty of nature, and how small humankind is in comparison. Her art emerges from her deep sense of longing for a world that is inclusive, equal and just; a world that is simple and kind.

Peggy Logan

The arts of painting ,enamelling and jewellery making have engaged Peggy for over thirty years. She has explored many themes, processes, and materials that have allowed her imagination to play. An example of this is in her fascination for seeds  where she casts seed forms in silver and then incorporating these forms with precious pearls to create original pieces of jewellery.  Enamelling glass to metal is much like painting in the choices of color and the layering process through multiple firings to create a piece of art. It is always a joy to see an idea come to completion opening the door to another idea.

Randy Hall is a Vancouver Island photographer specializing in nature photography, whether it is capturing natural settings such as seascapes or forest landscapes or the plants and animals that inhabit this part of British Columbia.Randy considers himself a landscape photographer first, but also an opportunistic wildlife photographer. “My photos are my interpretation of works by a true master – Mother Nature”.

Randy has developed a style that shows enhanced colours and contrast. When many people think of contrast, they think colours and tones. There can also be contrast in content. An example of this can be seen in some of Randy’s early morning images of Parksville Bay. Towering or threatening clouds can instill the feeling of unrest, while the calm waters of the bay say serenity. “It’s this type of scene, and the incorporation of weather, that interests me the most”.

I am a retired farmer and advanced care paramedic with a life-long passion for working with my hands to create one of a kind, beautiful functional wood art.

I take pride in creating pieces that showcase the natural beauty of wood. Every piece has a story. With every piece I create, I carefully select the wood, I learn how the wood speaks to me and I begin to create a one of a kind piece. Often, I forage for local Arbutus, Maple and Walnut that I select from fallen trees or branches. At times, I am given local wood by friends or neighbours and in return, I create a functional art piece as a gift.

My art process involves creating dramatic scenes and placing characters at their crisis moments. Humor often appears in my work to communicate and provoke thought. Over time, my images have become simpler, capturing the beauty and innocence of the human spirit.

Sandra Lamb
Sharon Lennox

Sharon is an established scratchboard artist, specializing in birds, wildlife and pet commissions. The detail is what drives her to create the most photo-realistic paintings possible.

Award winning artist Sharon Stone paints in both abstract and representational styles. Her latest work “Bridging the gap” combines her two styles. Sharon has been in many solo and group shows on Vancouver Island, accepted into many FCA juried shows and exhibited her work in Taiwan and Shanghai. After spending 6 years as artist in residence at the Laurel Point Inn, she was honoured by having a conference room named after her. She is currently represented by Aquamaris Gallery in Duncan and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
